Understanding that prayer is a Christian’s practice of personal and corporate relationship with God through Christ, the prayer ministry provides a variety of opportunities by which we at West Shore may develop our personal and corporate commitment to pray. The titles and descriptions below are ways in which you may join the ministry to help lead others to a deeper, richer prayer life.

Commitment to Prayer
Foundational to prayer ministry are people committed to and faithful in prayer. Our national prayer leaders encourage us to pray daily in our personal devotions, weekly with another believer, monthly with the church body, and several times a year with members of the larger church in our region.

Communication Facilitator

Prayer has everything to do with communication, so we need good communicators to carry the word about prayer concerns and events to the various groups within our West Shore body. We also welcome good writing to inspire interest in and motivation to pray which we may include on our main prayer ministry page on the church website (or however you say web stuff).  Check this page often to see the types of communication we want to offer members of our congregation and the means by which we may hear from them as well.

Prayer Chain and Prayer Teams

For more than 30 years West Shore has maintained a prayer chain Men and women from our congregation are available to both pray and contact others to pray for urgent needs as they arise.

A number of focused prayer groups are in operation, including a group which gathers to pray for the needs in Bosnia, the Caring Closet and several groups who pray for specific staff members. At any given time there are issues, events and “kingdom advances” around which groups may gather to pray.

Sacred Space Décor
The prayer chapel is sacred space—a sanctuary—where people may at any time come to pray quietly. We want the space to reflect a sense of holiness, beauty and safety and we need creative people who can give an eye to the chapel’s aesthetics. Each year a temporary chapel is arranged at the facility where women’s retreats are held and during Holy Week a “prayer path” is created; each are opportunities to create beautiful, sacred spaces.

Prayer Chapel Staff
Throughout the worship time on Sunday mornings the chapel is staffed by people who will pray for all that is taking place in worship and classes and are willing to pray with any who come to the chapel in need of prayer.

Event Co-workers
First Wednesday monthly prayer services, half-day prayer retreats and various seminars and conferences require a variety of kitchen, greeting, and set up/tear down help.

Prayer Service Leaders
Men and women of prayer who enjoy facilitating or leading in prayer are greatly needed.
