Author, Neil T. Anderson Reviewed by Kim Winters, West Shore contributor The Bondage Breaker is a great book—but it’s not magic fairy dust. It will not help anyone who does not want Christ on His terms for His glory. It will not set anyone free who is still clinging to their chains. But for those who have come to the end of themselves, who want Christ no matter what it will cost them, this book can literally be a lifesaver. Twenty years after its first printing in 1990, The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson continues inspiring, encouraging and guiding believers of all backgrounds and maturity levels to freedom in Christ. The book functions in multiple ways for differing needs:
The book is well written and perfectly paced, especially for reading with a person you are helping to walk out of spiritual oppression and/or occult involvement. Dr. Anderson’s years of experience in working with people suffering in this way have given him incredible wisdom and insight into the best pace, order and content for finding freedom in Christ.
Chapter 3 is one of my favorites—“You Have Every Right to be Free.” In this chapter Dr. Anderson covers 33 elements of our identity in Christ and helps the reader to investigate whether or not they are living like they believe those truths. Each truth is very simple, and is based on a Scripture verse that clearly states who God says we are once we have put our faith in Christ.
The Bondage Breaker is one of those books that will change you when you read it, regardless of your reasons for picking it up. Even if you disagree with Dr. Anderson on a few points here and there, the truths he shares and the wonderfully inspiring stories he relates will strengthen your faith and point you to the life-changing news that Jesus Christ is worthy of total surrender and devotion, and is indeed our loving and powerful Bondage Breaker. |
