A Truly Happy Birthday

Do you remember when you were a child and the excitement that would grow as your birthday approached, especially with the anticipation of having a party and getting presents from your friends?  One girl in our church was excited about her birthday, but for a very different reason.

As Hannah Diziki thought about her upcoming birthday and the presents she could receive, she considered all the stuff she already had in comparison to what little the students at the Aurora School had.  That prompted Hannah to forego any presents she could have received – a big sacrifice for a girl turning 10 years old.  Hannah invited her friends to her birthday party, but instead of bringing presents, she asked her friends to bring a donation for the Aurora school.

On Sunday in Awesome Adventure’s Planet Adventure, Hannah presented a check for $310 to go to the Aurora School.  When Pastor Terry asked Hannah if she felt sad about not receiving birthday presents, Hannah replied that she actually felt happier knowing that she was helping the boys and girls at the Aurora School than if she had received birthday presents.  Funny how that works!  Jesus said it was more blessed to give than to receive.
