The Survey Says …
Some early results of our survey of Connecting Group participants shows:
  • About 78% of participants rated the six-week Connecting Group experience as “satisfying” or “very satisfying,” with 55% noting that they were better connected or strongly connected as a result; 40% said their connection to the church remained unchanged.
  • Most (77%) respondents had not been involved in a small group prior to joining a Connecting Group, but 87% said they would now like to participate.
  • About 44 % said they would be happy to continue on with their Connecting Group as a small group; 40% said they would welcome new participants.
  • The time when a small group would gather was the most important factor influencing decisions about participating: 64% said it was important or very important.
When Connecting Group Facilitators gathered one evening to share their experiences from the six-week experiment, food was an oft-spoken topic.
  • One group decided to replicate a family sit-down meal for their weekly gatherings.  They simply sat around the dining room table, snacked, and talked like a family.
  • Another group of younger members did not know much about spam, which was a suggested ice- breaker.  So, at the next get-together, they shared a spam casserole.
  • Finally, it wasn’t just the organizing of food but the other preparation for guests every week that hosts found wearying.
The groups came in all shapes and sizes: some with kids attending, empty nesters, single women, etc. Mitch Baum – we think it was -- kept taking on people and got up to seven couples and 17 kids.

Favorable comments were made about the weekly questions tied to Pastor Phil’s Better Together sermons.
